Air EnvelopeThis is a featured page

View image to see this full-sized... this page shows the relative sizes of air envelopes that contain relatively the same amount of air volume. The first in the upper left hand corner is the original world with a 300 km air column. The other two are that same air column volume arranged as a torus (on the right) and a sphere (at the bottom). The shards would float inside these... as you can see, there is no way to break apart a world in the first picture without loosing much of the core to still be able to fit it inside the atmosphere envelope.

Istill like the sphere idea the best, I just need to decide how big it would need to be in order for all of the shards and debirs to fit comfortably (never coming closer than one mile to each other), and still have room for l12 to 2 week-long voyages by wind rigger to a shard on the other side of the sphere. Of course the easiest course would be straight through the center, but the gravity well (see below) might make that difficult.

I have pretty much decided that there is a common point in the center of the sphere and that all shards revolve around it. All shard roots point down toward that gravity-well, creating a "common down" - down is toward the center of the sphere, and up is toward the wall of the sky-sphere.... no matter which shard you are on. There might also be a "mystery" shard in the center wich might be the focal point the Gods created to project the sky-sphere. Just putting forth some brain-storming ideas...
